Special Olympics football 和 soccer seasons begin

The Latham Hawks have begun weekly practices for the fall Special Olympics season. Coached by campus staff volunteers, we have 24 students participating in football 和 19 students in soccer. Latham’s Special Olympics Coordinator Monique Williams reported that both teams have a great group this season. “We continue to see an increase in participation from the students, especially from those who don’t typically enjoy sports. We have a strong returning group of volunteers providing their instruction 和 support to both the athletes 和 Special Olympics.”

Assistant Principal Kara McDowell praised Monique for her dedication to the students 和 their involvement in Special Olympics. Kara said Monique “has been influential in the success 和 expansion of our Special Olympics program over the past three years.”

We’re looking forward to upcoming football 和 soccer tournaments, 和 with the help of our exceptional volunteers, participating in Special Olympics’ mission to provide year-round sports training 和 competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children 和 adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, prepare for entry into school 和 community programs, demonstrate cour年龄, experience joy 和 participate in the sharing of gifts, skills 和 friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes 和 the community.
